Sowing instructions
Sow direct into the flowering position, 25cm between rows, in March - May,
Cosmos takes around 12 weeks from sowing to flowering.
Germinates in 7-10 days at 19-21°C
Or sow indoors four to six weeks before the last frost date to get earliest bloom. Cover with vermiculite, prick out after 3 weeks. And either plant in the flowerbed or in containers.
Cosmos appreciate a moist, well-drained soil with plenty of nutrients. When siting your Cosmos do so in full sun, though often will do fine in partially sunny spots
If you want shorter plants and more bloom you may pinch your plants. This also helps prevent the need for staking of Cosmos as they get taller. These flowers are not very fussy and do not require much additional care.
Harvest Cosmos flowers as they bloom and just before. They do not keep long but add a graceful touch to arrangements.
